There will be nothing to pay for or sign up for at any time. It’s all free. I swear. If you missed my introductions you can find it here: Home Acne Treatment Introduction. Now to the Part 1.

PART 1: How to get rid of Acne

The purpose of the Part 1 is going to make a ton of sense. You see, in order to successfully get rid of acne, you’re going to first need to understand the root of the problem. That’s what Part 1 is. A complete, yet easy to understand explanation of what causes acne. How it happens, why it happens and most important of all, what you need to do to get rid of it.

You cannot skip ahead. You will need to know this in order to create your own home acne treatment plan in Part 2. So, by the end of this page you’ll know what causes acne and how to get rid of it. Sounds good? Great. Let’s get to it…

Pores

Let’s talk about pores first. You probably know what they are. Pores are the tiny openings in your skin that are presented everywhere on the body except the palms and soles. Each contains a hair and an oil gland. Oil glands help keep the skin lubricated and help remove old skin cells.

Some people genetically have large glands that produce more oil. That’s why they have oily skin. In contrast, people with small oil glands tend to have dry skin. Most people have a combination skin, so called T-zone.

You can see normal pore on the picture. With me so far? Great.

Acne cause

Now that you understand how the pores work, let’s find out what causes acne. When gland produces too much oil, the pore can get blocked, accumulating all the dead cells, that usually get removed, dirt, and bacteria. You can see on the image beginning of acne formation.

But why does the pore gets clogged?

The reason is that walls of the cells become sticky in response to hormones leading to a clogged pore with a lot of oil from the gland.

A bacteria called Propionibacterium is trapped in the acne-pore. That P. bacteria normally lives on your skin without causing any problems.

As soon as it gets trapped in a lot of oil, and it just loves oil, it gets very happy, and starts to grow and multiply. That causes inflammation. Inflammation may damage the cells that make collagen. Less collagen production causes thinning of the skin, which is seen as depressed scars.

THE BOTTOM LINE: acne is mostly due to the combined effects of hormones, the acne bacteria, and inflammation of the oil gland.

Told you it will be simple. We are half way through. Now let’s get to the main part and find out how to get rid of acne.

How do we get rid of acne?

To get rid of acne we need to solve 2 problems.

Problem 1: The first problem is the hair cells that become abnormally sticky that cause pore clogging.

Problem 2: We need to decrease inflammation in the pores.

And that’s exactly what Home Acne Treatment guide will help you do. In the step 2 will give you Step-by-Step instructions that will make your acne treatment very easy.

Types of Acne

This is important part of the Home Acne Treatment guide, so please don’t skip. To determine if Home Acne Treatment guide can help you we need to find out what type of acne you have.

Noninflammatory Acne (Whitehead and Blackhead):
  • Whitehead - When the debris and bacteria stay below the skin surface and are not exposed to oxygen, a whitehead is formed. I know, it’s asking to be popped but please don’t touch it because it can rapture and cause inflammation. It is better to leave it untouched.

  • Blackhead - If debris and bacteria are exposed to oxygen, they become oxidized, and a blackhead is formed.

Inflammatory Acne (Red bump):

Inflammatory acne consist of red blemishes, pimples also called zits (papules, pustules), and larger, deeper swollen tender lesions (nodules).
  • Papule - A papule occurs when there is a break in the wall. White blood cells rush in and the pore becomes inflamed.

  • Pustule - A pustule forms several days later when white blood cells make their way to the surface of the skin.

  • Nodule (severe) - When a follicle breaks along the bottom, total collapse can occur, causing a large, inflamed bump that can be sore to the touch that is called nodules.

  • Cyst (severe) - Sometimes a severe inflammatory reaction can result in very large pus filled lesions.

Still with me? You need to determine what acne type you are suffering from. Home Acne Treatment works well on moderate to light acne. If you suffering from the most sever types of acne you can try Home Acne Treatment but you still need to see a doctor.

The end of Step 1 of Home Acne Treatment

You have reached the end of Step 1. Right now you should fully understand how to get rid of acne. Feels good, doesn’t it? I told you this was simple. What you need to do next is use what you just learned to create your own home acne treatment plan.

That’s what Step 2 is. In Step 2 you will learn how we customize an acne treatment for you and step-by-step instructions that you need to follow. You ready? Let’s go…

PART 2: Create Your Home Acne Treatment Plan

In the Part 1 of Home Acne Treatment guide, you learned how acne works. You learned that there is 2 key problems that we need to solve in order to get rid of acne.

Now, in Part 2, you’re going to learn how to put this information to use and create your own home acne treatment plan.

Acne Home Treatment plan uses over the counter products that you can get at any drug store. It’s very simple acne plan, you will need only 3 things:

  • 1 cleanser for your skin type
  • BenzoylPperoxide 2.5%
  • 1 moisturizer for your skin type
How Home Acne Treatment works

Step 1 - We need to remove oil, dirt and skin debris from your skin. We can do that by simply washing our face with a gentle cleanser depending on your skin type.

Step 2 - In this step we need to kill the bacteria using Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%.

What it does is, it oxygenates the skin and bacteria dies because it cannot live in oxygenated environments. Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% is a mild peeling agent that helps to keep your pores from clogging. Unlike 5% and 10% it doesn’t cause irritation. When you are buying Benzoyl Peroxide make sure it's 2.5% and not 5% or 10%.

Step 3 -You need to moisturize your face after treating it with Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5% Apply the moisturizer depending on your skin type.

All these products contain Benzoyl Peroxide 2.5%. They have been recommended by our readers as the most effective treatments. You don't have to buy any of them. You can a different product but with these treatments you will have 70% less irritation.

We are almost done with the Part 2. The only thing left is to determine what is your skin type.

Your Skin Type

1. Oily Skin

If you have oily skin you need to get alcohol free, gentle and non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) toner, cleanser and moisturizer. You can get them at the drug store near you.

Oily Skin Acne Cleansers - I personally had success with Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash and Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser. Cleansers are best applied to a wet face with warm water, using the fingertips to gently massage the skin.

Oily Skin Acne Moisturizers - For oily skin I recommend Neutrogena Oil-Free Anti-Acne Moisturizerthat prevents acne. It is oil-free and contains extracts of Aloe and Chamomile that calm and smooth skin.

2. Dry Skin

If your skin is dry or very sensitive, you should avoid toners and astringents as well as drying or heavily scented soaps. Use a nonsoap low-alkaline replenishing cleanser. You can get them at the drug store near you.

Dry Skin Acne Cleansers - I think Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Olay Foaming Face Wash Sensitive Skin work great for the dry skin because these non-irritating cleansers add back moisture as they cleanse.

Dry Skin Acne Moisturizers - I recommend Neutrogena Oil-Free Anti-Acne Moisturizer that prevents acne. It is oil-free and contains extracts of Aloe and Chamomile that calm and smooth skin.

3. Normal Skin

If you have a normal or dry skin you need to use a cleanser with glycerin. Cleanser with glycerin doesn’t remove the invisible layer that is the face’s natural protective film.

Normal Skin Acne Cleansers - Use gentle cleansers such as Cetaphil Daily Facial Cleanser, Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash.

Normal Skin Acne Moisturizers - I recommend Neutrogena Oil-Free Anti-Acne Moisturizer that prevents acne. It is oil-free and contains extracts of Aloe and Chamomile that calm and smooth skin.

4. Combination Skin

Combination Skin is the most common. If you have combination skin you are oily on the nose, and forehead, so called T-zone, while typically drier on the cheeks.

Combination Skin Acne Cleansers - Gentle cleansers such as Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser, and Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, products for sensitive skin can be excellent choices.

Combination Skin Acne Moisturizers - You can get great results with Neutrogena Oil Free Moisture for Combination Skin.

You can see that I recommended a lot of Neutrogena products. I personally had great results with their products, but you don’t have to buy those. You can buy any products that you like in the drug store near you.

I am trying to save you money and time by giving you anti-acne products that I personally tested. These products don’t cost much and are very effective. I don’t want you to feel that you have to buy them.

The only thing you need are step-by-step instructions on how to use these anti-acne products. That’s what Part 3 is about. In Part 3 you will get step-by-step instructions to get rid of acne for good.

Home Acne Treatment Step-by-Step
Instructions

Our goal is to maximize the effect with minimal irritation.

Step 1: Wash your face
  • Wet your face with warm water. Apply a cleanser that is right for you skin to your hands, add water and work into foam.

  • Massage your face gently and rinse thoroughly. Do it for around 10 seconds, so it doesn’t dry your skin. Note: You picked the right cleanse for your skin type in Part 2 of our Home Acne Treatment guide.

  • Gently pat dry. Do not rub your skin, it might get irritated. Wait for 5-10 minutes for you face to dry completely.

  • You need to do Step 1 twice a day in the morning and in the evening before going to bed.
Step 2: Apply Anti-Acne Treatment

  • After your face is dry you can apply Neutrogena® On-the-Spot® Acne Treatment, that I recommend or you can use Benzol Peroxide 2.5% from the drug store.

  • Since your skin is not used to this treatment start with applying it once a day to avoid irritation. Slowly increase the amount you are applying over the next 2 week period.

  • If you are using On-the-Spot Acne Treatment, make sure you apply it directly on the spot, very gently with your fingers avoiding the eyes area. Don’t rub. If you are using BP 2.5% gel from the store, you can apply a thin layer on your entire face.

  • It should take you around 3-4 minutes of gently massaging the acne treatment in. Your skin is not used to this treatment and might start peeling but don’t worry that’s why we are applying moisturizer in the next step. When you start with the treatment for the first time, do it in the evening before going to sleep, so that you don’t have to go out with your face peeling.

  • You might feel a little burning. That is normal. Test is on a small area first. If you feel that burning is intolerable reduce amount of the medication.

Step 3: Moisturizing
  • After you are done applying Acne Treatment it’s time to moisturize your face. Note: You already picked the right moisturizer for your skin type in the Part 2 of the Home Acne Treatment guide.

  • Wait for the Acne treatment to dry around 10-15 minutes before applying moisturizer.

  • Apply a little more than what you usually would avoiding your eye area. If you see that your skin is still a little flaky it’s a good idea to wait a little bit and moisturize your face one more time.

  • Don’t skip this step. It’s very important to calm and smooth your skin. Do it twice a day in the morning and in the evening before going to bed.

Tracking Your Progress

One of the keys to getting rid of acne is accurately tracking your progress. Get a notepad and right down how much of each anti-acne products you applied and how did that effected your skin. Another way is with pictures. Tanks to digital cameras, this is quick and easy. Take a picture before you started the Home Acne Treatment and continue taking pictures each week. With pictures you can literally look back and compare and see every bit of progress you’ve made.
